Musical Chair

I even overheard a newly elected councilwoman praising him in Peets the other day for his intelligence and hard work.

Professional Jealousy

It's not uncommon for the members of the Potomac Wind Assemble to rant about the global kleptocrats residing by Turtle Bay. I used to think it was moral outrage...but it's really professional jealousy. The high standards of pork established through the diligent and unceasing efforts of our elected representatives pale in comparison to the vast amount of public funds that simply evaporate from the United Nations balance sheet every year.

Measure R Derailed

Posted November 16, 2006 8:58:01 PM

22977-146F611D-436D-4C99-B2EF-A00D8AFA35F9.jpg With over 70% of the Sonoma County vote the Smart train rolled over every obstacle but the county line. With the projected southern end of the route falling well short of the Larkspur Ferry terminal, the lotus eaters apparently rejected the idea of bridging the gap with a brisk wall or a short bus ride. Personally, the projected, infrequent service schedule, the 3 mile hike from my house to the station, coupled with the prospect of a walking, busing or cabbing from the terminus to my ultimate destination...and then repeating the process on the return journey...didn't rivet my imagination.

Those advocating reduced water usage are flushed with victory since the City fathers and mothers have initiated program offering rebates to those install low-flow toilets. As an incentive to those who don't...they are raising water rates.

All (Deaf) Dogs Go to Heaven

Posted November 4, 2006 12:13:02 PM

22977-74345EAB-B969-4138-ACE2-6B5543F51593.jpg Personally, I think a major key to a successful business is a distinctive personality. From the parody bumper stickers (Friends Don't Let Friends Go to Starbucks) to it's grunge rock attitude, Deaf Dog stores had personality to spare. And then there was the logo...an inspired bit of graphic whimsy comparable to the best Micro Brew labels. But as the coffee culture evolved, (less caffeine more sweet flavors...) DD stuck to its roots while the market teemed with other choices. For the "authentic" coffee experience we have Peets, for latest in coffee inspired malts, sodas, music and movies we have Starbucks and for coffee with a great view we have the Applebox. I wish the folks behind DD the best of luck and look forward with anticipation to their next effort.
